I sat down today and re-opened my free pdf of John Green's 'Looking For Alaska', and no sooner than I opened it, did I wonder why we re-read books.
I mean, in books, in life and in general, there's nothing that quite satisfies the initial thrill of not knowing what's around the corner. What awaits you on the next page, or even just in your path to the future. And when you know what awaits you, what's on that next page, there shouldn't be a reason to go back and do it over.
But then I realized, maybe we find comfort in the things we know. Maybe even if we do go back, or read that book again, there'll be something we didn't notice or didn't see before. Something that can change the way you think about events to come. Something that can change your perspective. So no matter how well you know something, an event or a book cover to cover, there'll always be something new and unexpected waiting for you.
Though nothing satisfies as much as the thrill of doing something the first time, you'll find that if you go back with an open mind, you'll understand and learn from the past.
